Reviews
Nice stories, bad constructionReview date: 2010-02-04 Rating: 4 out of 10This book has a nice layout for introducing youngsters to coins. Lots of information told in interesting ways. The kicker for me is that the book keeps falling apart. *Every* time I open the book, the rings came out of the front page and I had to put the rings back into the individual holes. This also means that I have to do all the work for my children, one of which is 8 years old and doesn't want my help with anything. She quickly lost interest in it because it couldn't be hers. The slots for the coins are very hard to put coins in. My thumbs hurt after pressing on the quarter as hard as I can with another quarter to try to get the coins in. The weird thing is, there are also slots that aren't tight enough and the coins fall out and you have to keep putting the coin back in. There is no place to put coins minted after 2008. So the 2009 quarter series is not included in the set for quarters.
These complaints seemed minor, at first, but the more I use it, the more frustrating the book is. I keep thinking, did the book designers ever actually touch this book? And ultimately, if this is a book that only an adult can put together, how is it for kids? My daughter certainly gave up on it awhile ago, and she really liked coins.Excellent for beginning coin collectorReview date: 2010-02-01 Rating: 10 out of 10This gift really got my daughters interested in coins. Instead of dumping change in a drawer, we examine each coin. Loads of fun!DisappointingReview date: 2010-01-28 Rating: 4 out of 10This book is disappointing. For a book with Coin Collecting in the title, you would expect the coins to fit in the slots. The presidential dollars don't fit as well as several of the other coins. Great source for kids.Review date: 2010-01-11 Rating: 10 out of 10I bought this book for my 9 year old daughter after she had showed an interest in coin collecting. She was drawn to it as soon as she opened the book. The illustrations are great and the layout is very kid friendly. We both have agreed that she can take the book with her when we go on our "antique" shopping quests. I am very impressed on how well thought out this book is. I as well as my daughter have fun with this book. Highly recommended for the young coin collector.
